Prof Brad Paterson

Brad is a 3rd Degree Black Belt with over 25 years of experience in teaching and competing in BJJ, Brad started training BJJ in 1997 under Chris De Weaver back when there were no black belts teaching anywhere in NSW. At the time Brad started training, the two highest guys in NSW were blue belts. That was to change with the arrival of Paulo Guimaraes. Paulo was the first Brazilian Black Belt to teach in Australia and Brad became his first student. So, Brad has been training with Paulo for over twenty years. Under Paulo, Brad has progressed from Blue Belt to 3rd Degree Black Belt and he has enjoyed notable success at both domestic competitions in Australia and over in Brazil at the World Cup.

Brad is the Head Instructor at ROOTS BJJ Avalon. Brad’s experience, dedication to BJJ, and extensive teaching experience combined with excellent facilities and a dedicated group of club members make ROOTS Avalon a great choice for anyone located on the Northern Beaches.
