James is a Roots Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt instructor and competitor with over 15 years of experience. After teaching and training at the Roots St George gym, under Professor Robert Naumoski, he moved on to start and build a team of his own. Many of his students, under his tutelage, have gone on to win titles in high level competitions. The biggest standout however, is the growth of the team who’ve thrived under his teaching in classes which vary in all ages from 4 and up.
James has competed in a variety of other sports, predominately rugby league which he played for over 20 years and cricket, which he competed at representative and grade levels for 7 years. His drive and love of competition started from an early age and is evident in his Jiu-Jitsu also.
As one of Roots most active competitors, James has always strived to stay on top of not only his own techniques but also staying current with all the latest techniques on the competition circuit. James has also trained in Brazil making him well grounded in the traditions and discipline of the martial art. The combination of tradition and competition gives James a wide array of techniques and concepts to pass on to his students.
Although James specialises in training for competition, he is also well versed in the self-defence side of BJJ as is evident by the fact he has been working in the security industry for over 7 years, working predominantly in the hotel/club/pub industry.
